Srinagar, Oct 12 (KNO): Calling children the future of the nation, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Monday urged society to unite against drug abuse as he flagged off a joint J&K-Ladakh Police motorcycle rally from Srinagar to Gujarat for Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the function, Prabhat, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the anti-drug campaign was gaining momentum in Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
"These small children are the future of our country," he said, stressing that protecting the younger generation from drug abuse was a collective responsibility.
Referring to recent action against drug trafficking in Srinagar, the DGP said significant progress had been made, with several arrests during the crackdown.
"This is a war being fought across society with a whole-of-government approach," he said, urging people to actively support the campaign.
"It is our duty to participate in this fight and say no to drugs," he added.
Earlier, Prabhat flagged off a contingent of 15 bikers, including 10 from J&K Police and five from Ladakh Police, from J&K Police Public School, Bemina, for Ekta Nagar in Gujarat. The team will participate in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Parade on October 31.
Ahead of the flag-off, an awareness programme on the theme "Fight Against Drugs" was organised at the school, drawing enthusiastic participation from students.
The DGP also lauded the participation of J&K Police in the national motorcycle rally, which will feature 45 contingents from states, Union Territories and Central Armed Police Forces across the country.
He expressed satisfaction over ongoing efforts to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for a drug-free society.
Several senior police officers, including Special DGP (Coordination) S.J.M. Gillani, Additional DGP (Armed) Nitish Kumar and IGP Kashmir Sujit Kumar, were present on the occasion—(KNO)
